The Story of TJSAX

TJSAX aka Terrance Kellogg heard Kenny G on saxophone and dreamt of resonating those same vibes. Since 5th grade clarinet he kept his ear on the jazz and classical music amid the wide range of music his mother made available to him and his siblings. Being the first to join the school band, the only to carry it through high school marching band to graduation, Terrance truly enjoyed writing and playing music. It was in high school where his taste for Coltrane, Grover Washington Jr and Najee helped enhance his sound at home as well as in church where he played every instrument he learned. Clarinet, piano, tenor saxophone, alto saxophone, French horn, trumpet, sopranino clarinet, drums and even the bass guitar are a few he learned before graduation.

It was after graduation Terrance wrote and recorded original music with a tape player before computer platforms were available. In 2011 Terrance released his first inspirational collection of music as TJSAX in Kankakee IL. Amid the album releases through the year, he started his own group, the TJSAX Band at the beginning of 2012 and hosted their first concert at the newly renovated Majestic Theater in Kankakee.

With multiple festival shows a year, several vocalists who joined in, wide variety of local talent in his shows, TJSAX Band and their jazzy inspirational instrumental music was up-beat, and different from the city’s norm. A final festival show in July 2016 and the TJSAX Band came to an end but the artists involved continued their musical career they had before the band still making the world great one show at a time.

Meanwhile…in Columbus GA, TJSAX aka Terrance is still writing, still creating, still building his musical repertoire, anxious to share his groovy instrumentals, his vocal lyrical poetry, and his ambiance music sure to relax the busiest of minds. Hymns near the River YouTube videos may hint at his gospel sound. What I Am album release on Spotify gives but a taste at some of his inspirational and lyrical direction. Keep your ear to the street and your eye wide, don’t let TJSAX not be in your favorite playlist.
